JOIN US IN MAKING WYCKOFF A STIGMA-FREE ZONE

One in 4 adults experience a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year, yet more than half will not seek treatment. Why? The main reasons cited are shame and fear of judgement from friends, family, and co-workers. In other words, the STIGMA associated with mental diseases-even though it’s a disease like any other.

Yet when the disease goes untreated, we are all affected. Individuals miss works or lose jobs. Family members become estranged. Communities suffer from unnecessary tragedies.

A coalition of concerned citizens, business leaders, local government, and school officials of Wyckoff have found common ground on this topic: it’s time to put an end to the stigmatization of mental illness.

On March 30, 2015 a resolution was passed naming Wyckoff a “Stigma-free zone”-making a commitment to the Wyckoff community to support training, education, and dialogue about mental illness. By educating our community and breaking down barriers we open minds and access to the care that so many need. And together, we grow.

As members of the community, we encourage your participation. For more information or to find out how you can get involved, email (EMAIL).
